14 Things Women Refuse to Tolerate as They Get Older

Not many people are excited about getting older, though it comes with some perks, especially for women. With age comes wisdom and a lack of care about what others think, so women become increasingly loud about their desires and annoyances. Unsurprisingly, all topics are on the table, but men and social media take the cake. Let’s find out what women won’t put up with as they grow older.

Adulting

Girls can’t wait to grow up, and young women believe that adulting will come to them naturally and things will fall into place. But that’s not the case. Women in their 40s or 50s work, care for their kids, aging parents, and husbands, and try to maintain friendships. They also prepare meals, do the dishes, and clean, so if you notice a middle-aged woman checking in at a hotel for a night, maybe she’s just trying to get some well-deserved “me” time.

Misogyny

Ignoring casual misogyny is a young woman’s way to handle it. But, if you think these “jokes” or “harmless” comments will sit well with older women, think again. They have struggled with it since their teens, so staying silent is no longer an option. They will call out, chew, and spit out any guy who dares to challenge them by making chauvinistic “jokes.”

Uncomfortable fashion choices

While younger women struggle to keep their balance on high heels, older ones have already learned their lesson, so they refuse to settle for anything other than comfort. Dressing up is nice, but with time, we learn to appreciate different things, like circulation, often cut due to ultra-tight dresses, or our feet, which suffered throughout our 20s.

Social media

Many women, now in their 40s, have grown up with the rise of social media, but they are over it. People have gone too far in pranks, challenges, dances, and the art of making selfies seem exhausting and pointless. However, many have children, so they can’t ignore social media, but they don’t have to keep up with younger ones scrolling their phones at the doctor’s office or in the theater.

Loud music everywhere

The only way to escape loud music is to stay at home all the time. It is in bars, restaurants, and stores, and if you want to talk to someone, you can either text them or shout. Many wonder whether it was always this loud, but the pandemic made us forget. Others are certain that this is some new trend and will not stand for it.

Noisy children

If loud music doesn’t drive a person to the edge of reason, noisy kids will do the trick. Many women who choose to be child-free don’t get to dwell on the decision because children are out of control. Usually, the only way to calm them down is to give them a cell phone, and this is another thing older women cannot stand. It seems that parenting has become even more challenging, but those high-pitched screams should be banned in public.

Vacation that you need a vacation from

At 18, backpacking through Europe was fine. Staying in confined rooms without AC and traveling in cramped vehicles was also acceptable, but with age, women want a dash of luxury. That means a room with a view, proper meals, first class, if possible, and spa time. No one needs a vacation that will take forever to recover from.

Women not supporting women

For many adult women, it is triggering to see other women tearing each other apart. If you think this is an exaggeration, studies prove women are biased and prejudiced against other women. It’s not accidental. It can come from childhood or develop during school and extend into the workplace. Women still have to work harder to be taken seriously, so many see other women as threats. But older women are wiser and know that’s not how the world should work.

Feeling tired all the time

There is nothing cute about menopause, and apart from hot flashes and mood swings, it also brings fatigue. That means that women are not only expected to do their daily tasks but also have to go through them while feeling tired. To fight it, they must find time to exercise, eat properly, get enough sleep, and meditate, but sadly, a day only lasts 24 hours.

Hangover

Once you hit a certain age, your alcohol tolerance begins dropping, and so does your tolerance for hangovers. You may have two beers, go to sleep at the usual time, and wake up feeling like you got hit by a train. Combined with fatigue, it can make you want to skip a day, but obligations are awaiting.

Unwanted gifts

With time, you accumulate a certain amount of things you don’t know what to do with, but then your cousins show up and bring you more useless stuff, like an egg timer. It creates clutter, and you don’t have time to deal with it, so no gifts are better than most. Younger people can laugh it off, but women at a certain age cannot tolerate more worthless things.

Bad dates

Once you stop looking at the world through rose-tinted glasses, you realize that dating was always awful. By the time women turn 40, they already know themselves and have achievements behind them, so playing games, being dishonest, or pretending to be something you’re not will get you in hot waters. That’s why many women choose to stay single and focus on friendships and experiences, not dates.

Promising beauty products

The beauty industry makes billions playing on mostly women’s insecurities. From hair dyes to promises of smooth, silky skin, there is always a new product that will reverse aging, and at some point, women are just done. They will return to basics, rock their greys, and embrace their wrinkles because that’s better than trying to achieve impossible beauty demands.

Going out despite not feeling it

When you’re a 20-something woman, every night is a party, and dressing up is part of the fun. When you get to a certain age, going out is low on your list of priorities, and you want it to be memorable. But, since most of the time you are either tired or you don’t feel like you’ll have a good time, prioritizing yourself feels like a small victory.
